Tap a string to hear it and tune that string.
Soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles share one tuning: G C E A. The G string is tuned higher than the C next to it, so the strings don't run from low to high. This is called re-entrant tuning, and it gives the ukulele its bright, close-voiced sound.
Low G tuning drops that G an octave for a fuller range, and a baritone ukulele is tuned D G B E, like the four highest strings of a guitar. The tuner above covers all three.

Tune to standard ukulele tuning by ear
Tune string 3 (C4) to a reference first: tap it in the tuner above, or use a piano or another instrument. Then tune each string to one that is already in tune:
- Play string 3 at fret 4, then tune open string 2 until the two sound the same (E4).
- Play string 2 at fret 3, then tune open string 4 until the two sound the same (G4).
- Play string 4 at fret 2, then tune open string 1 until the two sound the same (A4).
Tips for tuning a ukulele
- My Dog Has Fleas
- The classic way to remember the four notes, sung on G, C, E, and A. Tap each string in the tuner to hear the real pitches.
- New strings stretch a lot
- Nylon and fluorocarbon strings keep stretching for days. Expect to retune often at first; gently pulling each string away from the fretboard speeds it up.
- Tune the C string first
- C is the lowest string on a re-entrant ukulele, so it makes the natural reference for tuning the others by ear.

What are the notes of standard ukulele tuning?
From string 4 to string 1: G4, C4, E4, A4. With A4 at 440 Hz, that is 392.00 Hz, 261.63 Hz, 329.63 Hz, 440.00 Hz.
Which string is which on a ukulele?
Holding the ukulele to play, the string nearest your face is the 4th, G. Then come C and E, and the 1st, A, is nearest the floor.
What is the difference between high G and low G?
High G is the standard re-entrant tuning, with the G string above the C. Low G tunes it an octave lower, to G3, so the strings run from low to high like a guitar's.
Can I tune a baritone ukulele here?
Yes. Pick Baritone Ukulele in the tuner: D G B E, the same as the four highest strings of a guitar.
